Pastels
PART OF THE BLACKDOWN EDGE ARTISTS' EXHIBITION
This pastel workshop is ideal for beginners as well as more experienced artists to learn different techniques of how to create vibrant colour and light effects for all types of paintings. During this session the focus in the morning will be on animal portraits; participants will be asked to bring a good, well lit photograph of their pet or an animal of their choice, from which they will learn to create a realistic portrait. Soft pastels are an ideal medium for rendering furs, coats and feathers which, in turn, lead to mastering a wide range of different natural textures.
In the afternoon various elements of landscape painting will be explored; sky, trees and water being some key elements, but also man made structures such as houses, fences and roads, which can be tricky to harmoniously integrate into a nature scene.
At the time of this workshop, tutor Alexandra Lavizzari will be exhibiting in the Blackdown Edge Artist’s exhibition.
