Mike Denham SpeakEasy with Tom "Spats" Langham

Mike Denham’s guest tonight is arguably the UK's top jazz entertainer, Tom "Spats" Langham.  Spats plays majestic guitar and banjo, and is an excellent vocalist.  With Mike at the piano, the two will explore 1920s jazz and 1930s swing with expertise and huge delight.

As a professional musician, Spats has travelled the four corners of the globe, and has been welcomed to play with many great artists and bands. These include The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Temperance Seven, Monty Sunshine, Acker Bilk, Marty Grosz, Bob Bernhard, Bob Wilber, Kenny Davern, Scott Black, Howard Aldon, Bucky Pizarelli, Duncan Swift, Nevile Dickie, The Hot Antic Jazz Band, The Swedish Jazz Kings, The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, The Palm Court Orchestra, The Rio Trio, Sammy Rimington, The Solid Senders, Chris Barbers Band, Tommy Burtons Sporting House Strings and Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band to name but a few!

Pianist Mike Denham is a regular visitor to the Arts Centre and draws a capacity audience. He performs at many festivals and venues around the UK, either playing solo or with his own Traditional bands. For those not familiar with Mike’s music, his piano playing ranges from the very earliest days of jazz with ragtime and early blues, through Fats Waller's "Stride" style to the 1950’s “Rock and Roll” heard with the likes of Chuck Berry and Fats Domino. He also includes his own renditions of many of the ever popular jazz standards from the “Great American Songbook”. Mike intersperses his playing with interesting and amusing anecdotes about the tunes and the people who wrote, played and sang them.

Performance starts at 7:30pm, doors from 6:30pm with bar available.
