Visitors choose art award

Paintings of oystercatchers and gannets by artist Sue Allen won the Visitors' Choice Award as part of Ilminster Art Centre's Annual Open Exhibition held over May and June this year.

The prize, based on more than 500 votes cast by visitors to last month's exhibition, means that Sue's work will go forward to be displayed at a prize winners' exhibition at Ilminster Arts Centre next January.

Sue, from Glastonbury, specialises in painting seascapes, seabirds and other animals, and is a regular exhibitor at Ilminster Arts Centre. Her daughter and daughter-in-law are also artists. Sue currently has some decorated boxes for sale in Ilminster Art Centre's gift shop.

An installation by Ilminster Arts Centre's very own Clay Group was chosen as Runner-Up in the Visitors' Choice Award. They have also been invited to exhibit next year.

The Ilminster Open Exhibition was sponsored by local firm Branston.
