Artists invited to enter Open Exhibition 2023

Artists in the South West are invited to enter this year's Ilminster Open Exhibition, with the opportunity to win cash prizes and have their work displayed in the prestigious Gallery at Ilminster Arts Centre from 23 May to 16 June 2023.

The deadline for online receipt of entries is 6pm on Saturday, 6 May.

The exhibition aims to celebrate the creative talent of established and emerging artists living and working in the South West.

Work in the following media will be considered for exhibiting - paintings, original prints, drawings, sculpture, ceramics and textiles. Photography is not included.

An invited panel of judges will choose which entries get exhibited and will aim to ensure a balanced selection of work from as many chosen art genres as possible.

A total of £800 in prize money will be awarded, including a Visitors' Choice prize, voted by visitors to the exhibition.

There's also a category to celebrate the work of young emerging artists aged between 17 and 25. The prize will include 12 months' free membership of Somerset Art Works and exposure on its website.

All work submitted and selected will be displayed for sale and must not have been hung before at Ilminster Arts Centre.

Ann Palmer, exhibition organiser at Ilminster Arts Centre, said: "The South West is bursting with creativity and artistic talent. We look forward to celebrating and showcasing awe-inspiring and thought-provoking work of the highest calibre.

"We hope to hear from a wide range of painters, sculptors and craft makers.

"As well as the prizes and prestige of exhibiting in one of the region's foremost galleries, the winners will be invited to participate in our Prize Winners' Exhibition in 2024."

The Ilminster Open Exhibition 2023 is supported by Somerset Art Works, a countywide agency dedicated to developing the visual arts, and sponsored by local firm Branston.

Ilminster Arts Centre is a charity and multi-arts venue. It was established nearly 30 years ago by artist and illustrator Mary Atherton.
