New Chair appointed

Julie Manley

Ilminster Arts Centre has appointed Julie Manley as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees, following the decision of Tony Nares to step down after four years due to increased work commitments.

Julie, from Marsh on the Somerset/Devon border, is a former retail area manager, having worked for brands such as Austin Reed, Country Casuals, Viyella, House of Fraser and Next. As an ex-chorister, she has a passion for music and the arts.

Commenting on her appointment Julie said: "I'm delighted to have joined the brilliant team of volunteers at Ilminster Arts Centre and look forward to leading the charity in the next stage of its development as it approaches its 30th anniversary. The arts centre plays a hugely important role in bringing arts to the community, enriching people's quality of life and supporting a wide range of amazing artists and performers.

"As with many charities, the continuing challenge is to operate on a more sustainable financial footing as we deliver and improve our exciting cultural programme to as many people as possible."

Ilminster Arts Centre, which is based in a former church in the heart of the town, is a multi-arts and performance venue, with a gift shop, café and tourist information point. Its performance programme presents live music, including jazz, blues, classical, folk, pop and rock, as well as plays and talks. Its attractive gallery hosts free-to-enter art exhibitions, and in the main hall there are regular craft workshops for all abilities, led by talented tutors.
