A Concentration of Light – paintings by Annie Musgrove
This collection of recent work demonstrates Annie’s passion for the effects of light on land and sea. Through the seasons and throughout the day, the colours and tones evident in our land and seascapes are illuminated by light. Rapidly changing skies create shadows which serve to emphasise light cast in different parts of the landscape.
Annie works mostly in oils and spends time in the landscape, walking with her two labradors, Woody and Smartie, observing and noticing the weather and its effects. Charcoal sketches are brought back to the studio as inspiration and memory joggers for the atmospheric work that follows. Recently Annie has been exploring working in a more abstract way using colour and mark making to express her response to the landscape.
In 2023 Annie won the overall prize at the Ilminster Open with her painting “Untouchable Horizons” and since then has shown at the Thelma Hulbert Open and South West Academy Open. Her work is regularly shown in Devon and Somerset and is found in private collections as far afield as the USA, Kenya, and Australia. Recent work can be seen on #anniemusgroveart and on her website www.anniemusgrove.co.uk. As well as making and exhibiting her own work she teaches a number of workshops each year in the south-west.
